Till he emerged a prime suspect in the spot fixing scandal, Salman Butt was considered the pride of his school.

"We are shocked and were not ready to believe initially," his one-time school principal, Shafiq Khwaja Ahmed said from Lahore.
"As a student of Beacon House School (in New Garden Town area), he was considered to be a role model for many. We can't believe that our boy would do such things.
"We still think that he may have been trapped by somebody. Let the enquiry against him be completed. He may sort out things which he is capable of," added Ahmed.
According to principal Ahmed, Salman hailed from a middle-class family and was an average student in school. He was captain of the school XI and even after making it in the national team, he used to visit his school often as chief guest for school functions.
Salman's sisters studied in the girls section of the school. In fact, Salman's wife Gul too studied at Beacon House.
