England predictably named an unchanged team for the second Test against South Africa at Kingsmead on Saturday.

Ian Bell retained his place as the tourists' extra batsman, meaning no opportunity yet for all-rounder Luke Wright or a fifth specialist bowler.

After England scraped a draw at Centurion last weekend, the series is 0-0 with three matches to play.

On a sunny morning but after a spell of thundery rain on Friday night, Graeme Smith won the toss for South Africa and chose to bat first.

The hosts made one expected change from Centurion, Dale Steyn fit from the hamstring strain which ruled him out of the first Test and taking the place of his fellow pace bowler Friedel de Wet.
