Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of Team India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah shared a post on X saying, "It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr @GautamGambhir as the new Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian Cricket forward.
His clear vision for #TeamIndia, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The @BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey." Taking to X:

Earlier, there were speculations regarding Gautam Gambhir being appointed as Team India's head coach, but secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday confirmed it on X. For the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, VVS Laxman has been appointed as temporary head coach. The T20I series between India and Zimbabwe have been tied at 1-1 with the third T20I scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
Earlier, Rahul Dravid was in charge of the Team India's head coach role. His tenure came to an end after the ODI World Cup 2023 was concluded. But later, Dravid along with the support staff's contract got an extension. Under Rahul Dravid, Team India later went on to win the T20 World Cup 2024.
Gautam Gambhir joined Kolkata Knight Riders as the mentor in the IPL 2024. Following the matter, under Gambhir KKR won the title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals of the Indian showpiece.
