F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said last year that the 2014 Indian Grand Prix would be dropped to tweak the racing calendar, and though race-promoters Jaypee Group have confirmed F1 will return to India in 2015, the erstwhile government's non-support for the sport has been a major hindrance. However, Karthikeyan is hoeful things will change.

"We have a new government, so I hope they are pro-motorsport. F1 is a very high profile event all over the world, so why not in India? It can do a lot of good to the country's image.

It is expensive, but when we are capable of competing with the huge economy of China, then why not have a high profile event like them as well," asked Karthikeyan.
