Former national referee Joe Fernandes passed away after a prolonged illness at his Dhobi Talao residence yesterday.

The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Seven Dolours Church in Marine Lines at 4pm today. Joe (68) is survived by wife Nazi (66), daughter Janice (38) and sons Glen and Gavin (twins, 36).
"When my father was diagnosed with cancer in May last year, the doctors had told us that he wouldn't survive for more than three months.
"I am happy that by God's grace and prayers of his well wishers, he was there with us for almost nine months," son Gavin told MiD DAY yesterday.
