Somdev Devvarman came out ofu00a0 the Australian Open disappointment with a bang as the India No 1 packed off sixth seed Xavier Malisse in straight sets last night in the opening round of the ATP South African Open.
Devvarman won 6-4, 6-2.
The Davis Cup star had failed to make it to the main draw of the season's opening Grand Slam in Melbourne two weeks ago but the youngster showed made no mistake in sending the seasoned Malisse packing last night.
Devvarman will now face Brazil's Thiago Alves for a place in the last eight.
