India is all set to celebrate its 76th Republic Day on Sunday. The Republic Day parade held in New Delhi every year is a significant part of the celebrations.
Here are some interesting facts about the parade, which features Indian Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, NCC, and more.
The first Republic Day parade took place in 1950 at Irwin Amphitheatre (now Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium).
The parade features colorful tableaux from different states, showcasing India’s cultural heritage. The theme this year is ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas`.
The preparations for the parade commence as early as July, the year before. On the day, all participants arrive by 3 AM.
It’s a tradition to invite a political leader from another country for the parade. This year, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will grace the event.
The parade usually starts at Vijay Chowk and passes through areas like Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon and Netaji Subhash Marg, before concluding at Red Fort.
