Security across Amritsar was tightened in view of the anniversary of Operation Blue Star. Notably, Operation Blue Star was carried out by the Indian Army in June 1984. Its aim was to capture Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his supporters hiding in the Golden Temple. On the operation’s 39th anniversary, police forces in civil clothes were deployed inside the Sikh shrine’s premises.
