Kelly had been putting off an operation, has finally got it done

A nagging injury has made Kelly Dorje undergo a knee operation. Lara Dutta's ex-beau has been advised two weeks of complete bedrest.

The surgical procedure was conducted in Hyderabad where the actor is now recuperating.

Unbearable pain

Says Kelly, "The pain had become unbearable of late. It was a sports-related injury and coupled with shooting demands, the condition had worsened."

The model-turned-actor had a tear on the padding between the shin and the thigh bone. Explains Kelly, "The padding is very delicate, it is as smooth as chinaware.

I had a miniscule tear on it. As the doctor was conducting the orthoscopy, I could actually see the injury thanks to the hi-tech camera equipment."

South star Nagarjuna with whom Kelly acted in the Telugu film Don No 1, which was also dubbed in Hindi, advised him to opt for the surgery.

"I had been putting off the decision for a long time. Nagarjuna helped me make up my mind. As I played the villain in the film there were a lot of action sequences. He had seen me suffering. Now that I was visiting Hyderabad, he told me just do it."

Nagarjuna also helped him set up an appointment with US-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr Sekhar Sompalli. "He is a noted specialist based in Chicago who comes down to Hyderabad to conduct surgical procedures.

The model-turned-actor has also acted in another Telugu film Billa for which he has dubbed himself. "My character is such that the accent can vary, so I decided to dub myself for it. Every individual has a distinct way of speaking. So I could get away with my kind of Telugu."

Kelly will next be seen in the film Lahore which has the sport of kickboxing in the backdrop. "It is a cross-border saga of a team of Indian kickboxers who have to win despite the odds." He will also be seen in Mehul Kumar's next project.

"As soon as my knee heals, I will be ready for filmi action again," says Kelly who has a heap of books for company. "I'm reading Aravind Adiga's The White Tiger."
