Hansal Mehta has voiced his criticism against the newly introduced mandate that requires OTT platforms to include a disclaimer regarding smoking or tobacco products. With a touch of sarcasm, he referred to it as a "progressive decision." Hansal Mehta, known for directing popular series like Netflix's 'Scoop' and SonyLIV's 'Scam 1992,' took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

On Wednesday, he posted, "Yes. The only reason tobacco products and smoking kill is our shows/films. By putting these tickers, we will have healthy people who don't smoke. Very progressive decision."

One user reacted to the announcemnt:

Hansal Mehta's response was directed at a particular line in the report mentioning that the decision to include smoking disclaimers on OTT platforms was made to safeguard people's health and raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco.

Hansal Mehta's body of work showcases his ability to tackle complex and thought-provoking subjects. His recent projects, 'Scoop' and 'Scam 1992,' have received critical acclaim and garnered a massive audience base. His unique storytelling style and attention to detail have earned him a reputable place in the entertainment industry.

The filmmaker's candid critique reflects his skepticism towards the notion that the presence of smoking or tobacco in shows and films is the primary cause of tobacco-related issues. The mandate intends to create awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, but Mehta's sarcastic remark questions its actual impact on viewers' behavior.

It is essential to strike a balance between artistic freedom and social responsibility when addressing sensitive subjects like smoking. While disclaimers can serve as a step towards promoting awareness, they may not be the sole solution to curb smoking habits or tobacco-related problems.
