Emotional moments

No wedding is complete without tears of joy. Newly-weds Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani had their share of emotional moments as they tied the knot in Jaisalmer, on Tuesday. We hear Sidharth was left teary-eyed, before the pheras, on seeing how the bride had customised her kaliras. Apparently, her kaliras were designed in such a way that they included the most special aspects of their love story — from their initials, to their favourite travel destination. It also included a special dedication to Sidharth’s pet boxer Oscar, who passed away last year. After the pheras, the bride and her family turned emotional as they performed the bidaai rituals. Sidharth stepped up to console his parents-in-law, reassuring them that he would be like a son to them.  The post-wedding celebrations will continue till this weekend. Last morning, the newly-weds flew to Delhi for extended celebrations at the Malhotra home. The Malhotras will host a grand reception tonight for their relatives and friends.

Jim’s origin story, anyone?

Following Pathaan’s roaring success, fans are eager for spin-off films. Many are rooting for an origin story of John Abraham’s Jim, a former spy-turned-mercenary. Pleased with the audience’s response to his character, the actor says, “I didn’t expect that people would love my character so much that they want more of Jim.” In the movie, Ashutosh Rana’s character is seen admitting that Jim was among the best in business, but was left disillusioned after a personal tragedy. John adds that a lot can be explored if a film is made on Jim. “I don’t know what Aditya Chopra has in mind. It would be great if he wants to tell the world how good a spy Jim was, and how he became a ruthless mercenary later.”

The new date is finally locked

Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee’s multi-generational family drama, Gulmohar, is finally set to première on March 3 on Disney+ Hotstar. Rahul Chittella’s directorial venture, set in the heart of Delhi, was initially slated to arrive last August. However, things didn’t go as planned. The heart-warming narrative also features Amol Palekar, Suraj Sharma and Simran in pivotal roles. “It strikes a balance between tradition and modernity, and how families can bridge that gap with love and warmth,” says Tagore. Bajpayee adds, “The film explores the different bonds within a family, and what turns a house into a home.”

Mafia movie next

Shriya Saran’s next, Underworld Ka Kabzaa is set to open in cinemas on March 17. Based on the reign of the mafia boss, Arkeshwara, in pre-Independence India, R Chandru’s period drama stars Upendra as the gangster. It also features Kichcha Sudeep and Kabir Duhan Singh. Initially shot in Kannada, the film has reportedly been acquired by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures for a pan-India release.

It’s a wrap for Bhaijaan

At long last, the shoot of Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is wrapped up. The actor-producer shared the news, along with a picture from Farhad Samji’s directorial venture, on social media. Late last month, he shared the film’s teaser, which got a mixed response from the audiences. We hear that Salman is taking note of the feedback on the action drama, which also stars Pooja Hegde as his leading lady. “Bhai is sparing no effort in delivering an entertainer to cine-goers this Eid. He is overseeing every aspect of post-production, and will ensure that the movie’s trailer, which will be unveiled closer to its date with cinemas, will not disappoint the audiences,” says a source.

Injury no bar

In her nearly 50-year innings as an actor, Shabana Azmi has never let anything come in the way of her commitment to work. She won’t make an exception now. The veteran actor recently injured her wrist when she mistimed a jump. But she is not letting the broken wrist deter her from heading to work. Last night, Azmi flew off to Budapest to shoot for the second season of her international web series, Halo. She plays Admiral Margaret Parangosky, Director of ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence), in the military sci-fi drama produced by Steven Spielberg. Insiders say the senior actor will have to film several daunting sequences in the schedule that goes on till February 28.

Book on Sri to release soon

Almost five years since Sridevi’s demise, one hears that her biography will be released soon. Westland Books has acquired the rights to Dhiraj Kumar’s book on the late superstar, who was conferred with the Padma Shri, National Award, and several film awards. Sri’s producer-husband Boney Kapoor said, “Sridevi was a force of nature. She was the happiest when she shared her art on screen with her fans, but she was also a fiercely private person. Dhiraj Kumar is someone she considered family. He is a researcher, writer and columnist. We are happy that he is writing a book that befits her extraordinary life.”
