Parliament pays tribute

Lata Mangeshkar

The Parliament paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar with Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu describing India’s “nightingale and melody queen” as one who captured “every mood, moment and journey” of India during several decades of her illustrious career. “Her distinguished and long career ran parallel to that of free India over the last 75 years, capturing the trials and tribulations of the times. India is struck silent with her passing away in the 75th year of Independence,” the RS Chairman said.

Brand India

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar has been named the brand ambassador for Uttarakhand. Yesterday, the actor met the state’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at his residence in Dehradun. The CM then announced that the actor will work as the brand ambassador of the state.

A new low?

Shah Rukh Khan

Why would India’s biggest superstar arrive at the last rites of the country’s nightingale, and attempt to disrespect her? That’s the kind of question that trolls never seem to ask themselves before making unfounded claims. A group of naysayers expressed anger after Shah Rukh Khan seemingly blew air on the veteran’s face after offering a prayer at the funeral yesterday. Many claimed he ‘spat’ on her. “It is common practice in Islam. Muslims blow air from their mouth after reciting Ayats from Holy Quran,” a user replied.

Aye, kya bol ti tu?

Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan

A video showcasing Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan indulging in conversation at the city airport while dropping son Arhaan has piqued netizens’ curiosity. While some suggested Arora was evidently yelling at Khan, others hailed the duo for their co-parenting skills. “Children still keep a connection between parents,” one user wrote. What were they talking about,? Your guess is as good as ours.

Onir and Renuka Shahane

Onir’s next on a gay Army major hasn’t yet got a clearance from the ministry. Asking for support via a petition, he tweeted, “It saddens me that films get made about drug lords, serial killers, frauds. But I am being stopped from making a beautiful love story inspired by a real incident, just because the man happens to be gay and an ex-army man.”  Renuka Shahane was among the first to extend support.

Sid’s the new Emraan Hashmi?

Emraan Hashmi and Sidharth Malhotra

Among other things, Emraan Hashmi’s reign in Bollywood during the initial phase of his career was attributed to the string of great songs — Pee loon, Jhalak dikhlaja, Woh lamhe — that he was part of. Sidharth Malhotra seems to be the next Hashmi, with the Shershaah star apparently emerging as the only Indian actor whose five consecutive songs have amassed over 3 million views. Malhotra’s Raataan lambiyan, Thoda thoda pyaar, Tum hi aana, Ranjha, Mann bharya contributed to the win.
