Actress Rakul Preet Singh, who will next be seen in 'Runway 34' with Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan and others, comes from an Army background. While her dad Rajender Singh is her hero, the actress says Army wives deserve a lot of credit too!

Rakul, who is a guest on mid-day.com’s special series ‘Flashback with the stars’ says, “In any Army officer’s family, a lot of credit should go to the wife. In today’s day and age, we are so dependent on phone calls and Whatsapp but at that time there were no phones. To not know where your husband is and to not know how he is doing, especially when dad was on border areas! To get calls once in 3-4 days and write letters to each other, is so beautiful! You have to be a parent so strong, to fulfil the role of a mother and father when our father was away. The biggest credit goes to my mom for keeping the family together and teaching us everything she did.”

The actress adds that her mother ensured she and her brother Aman were always busy learning sports like tennis, swimming and golf and using their energy the right way. She says, “My mom’s favourite pastime would be video recording us because our dad would miss out on our growing up years. Be it our fights, us dancing or singing terribly. That strength is unparalleled and today when I look at it, I don’t think we are as a generation made to take up so much responsibility and deliver it so efficiently.”
