Robert Pattinson in Mickey 17

India to watch a watered down version of Bong Joon-Ho's Mickey 17

It has been almost five years since South Korean filmmaker-writer Bong Joon-Ho’s big win at the Academy Awards for Parasite (2019). He returns with the sci-fi film, Mickey 17, featuring Robert Pattinson. Being a foreign film, one might have expected the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to make massive cuts. However, the film passed without any. Reason: the studio pre-edited the movie to cater to Indian audiences. In India, Mickey 17 will run four minutes shorter than the original. The studio’s decision to self-censor was a strategic move to ensure the film’s release in India at any cost.  The pre-emptive edit reflects a growing trend among studios releasing films in India, where audience sensibilities sometimes clash with global content standards. A source close to the CBFC noted, “The studio’s careful approach reflects a keen understanding of the Indian market and the challenges of catering to a diverse audience.”  Bong Joon-Ho A studio insider elaborated, “We wanted to ensure that Mickey 17 reaches the broadest possible audience in India. The cultural norms differ from other markets. We avoided delays and ensured that the film’s essence remains intact while respecting local sensitivities. Bong Joon Ho’s storytelling is so layered that these edits do not impact the overall narrative.”  Mickey 17, based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7, follows the story of a disposable worker on an ice planet, tasked with life-threatening missions. In the story, one version of Mickey ends up having sex with another—essentially a threesome with his girlfriend. She grabs their faces and exclaims, “This is so exciting.” Sources believe the full scene has been removed from the film’s India cut. Other edits and disclaimers have been added. The detailed modifications of Mickey 17 will be seen only upon its release in March.

American rapper Nicki Minaj sued for physical assault by former employee

American rapper Nicki Minaj has been slapped with a lawsuit over alleged assault, battery and “intentional infliction of emotional distress”. The charges have been pressed by a man who alleges the Grammy-nominated rapper struck him in the face during a confrontation, reports ‘Variety’. In a complaint filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Brandon Garrett claimed he was working as a day-to-day manager for Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 tour when Minaj (real name Onika Maraj) hit him multiple times. As per ‘Variety’, the altercation allegedly occurred backstage at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on April 21 following one of Minaj’s concerts. In a statement shared with ‘Variety’, Minaj’s lawyer, Judd Burstein, widely denied these allegations and denounced an original report of the complaint from TMZ. “At this time, no complaint has been served upon Mrs. Petty (Minaj’s husband is Kenneth Petty), and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Bernstein shared. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favor”. As per the lawsuit, Garrett was on his way back from an errand Minaj requested when he received a text message from her head of security, Larry Dathan. Dathan allegedly told Garrett that Minaj wanted to see him in her dressing room. When he arrived, Garrett says eight members of Minaj’s staff were present including Dathan, another employee named Luke Montgomery and her former manager Deb Antney. Garrett states Minaj began to complain about the staff “not knowing what they are supposed to do, and who reports to who” when she turned her attention to Montgomery, asking what his position was. “Mr. Montgomery explained that his duties entailed tasks like venue dressing room set-up, private jet set-up, hotel room set-up, quick change room refreshments, and tour bus set-up”, the complaint read. “Mr. Montgomery mentioned these duties were in addition to any requests from (Minaj) communicated by (Garrett), including food orders, drinks, personal items, baby items, and, most notably, prescriptions”. Garrett explained he had Montgomery pick up the prescriptions because he was occupied with tour responsibilities, including assisting Minaj with quick changes during performances. Blake Lively with husband Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman (L-R)

Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively to give Golden Globe Awards a miss?

The stars of 'Deadpool & Wolverine', the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are not expected to attend the upcoming Golden Globes Awards on Sunday as per a Deadline report. Actress and wife of Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively will also reportedly not be attending the award show. She was the star and producer of the film 'It Ends With Us', a Netflix summer romantic drama which grossed USD 351 million worldwide this year. She also made a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. Reynolds, Lively and Jackman's decision to not attend Golden Globes was reportedly made well in advance of the 'It Ends With Us' legal firestorm in which Lively is suing her co-star and director, Justin Baldoni, and his team for sexual harassment in federal court in New York. The lawsuit by Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni over 'sexual harassment' and other claims is a hot topic in the entertainment industry right now. Comedian Nikki Glaser who is set to host the Golden Globes has decided to steer clear from joking about the 'It Ends With Us' behind-the-scenes this year. "I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be," the comedian told Yahoo Entertainment. "I also don't want to give his name any -- I'm mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don't need to say it anymore." said Nikki Glaser as quoted by Deadline. Meanwhile, Netflix leads the pack in the Golden Globes nominations for 2024 on both the TV and film side, while A24 and HBO are well represented. Viola Davis will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Davis won a Supporting Actress Oscar and a Golden Globe for 2016's Fences. She also has six other Golden Globe nominations, most recently for 2022's The Woman King. India is also eying an award with filmmaker Payal Kapadia's 'All We Imagine As Light' obtaining two prestigious nominations at the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards. David Fincher revealed his take when asked to direct Harry Potter

David Fincher recently revealed that he was considered for the franchise of 'Harry Potter' before he pitched his take on the material. In an interview with 'Variety', 'Seven' director said that he was asked for his take on the film Harry Potter and how would he approach it. "I remember saying, 'I just don't want to do the clean Hollywood version of it. I want to do something that looks a lot more like 'Withnail and I,' and I want it to be kind of creepy." said David Fincher. However, on the contrary, Warner Bros. had something more traditional in mind for their series of adaptations of author J.K. Rowling's best-selling young adult books about the eponymous wizard, as per the report of Variety. "They were like, 'We want Thom Browne schooldays by way of Oliver." said David Fincher. Harry Potter is a film series based on the Harry Potter series of novels by JK Rowling. The series was produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and consists of eight fantasy films. The series starred Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in lead roles. Fincher is reportedly working on an American adaptation of Netflix's popular Korean series "Squid Game," as well as a miniseries prequel to "Chinatown" that he co-wrote with the film's late screenwriter, Robert Towne. Discussing what draws him to new projects, he reflected on what appealed to him about past ones, several of which ("Dragon Tattoo," "Gone Girl") were based on material that had a pre-existing popularity. Looking back at his superhit film, "The Social Network", Fincher called "It's just a script that you couldn't put down." He also shared his love for the film 'Zodiac.' "[The Zodiac killer] was a boogeyman when I was a 7-year-old, and I was kind of going through the process the main character was going through -- what happened? I felt kindred to that. 'Benjamin Button,' I loved the idea of a romance with that kind of body count," he added, laughing. "There's different things about every movie." said Fincher as quoted by Variety. Fincher underscored the significance each project sparks from a unique combination of personal interest and professional opportunity. "There are different things about stories that resonate with you based on movies you love and the kind of movies that you made," he said. David Fincher is known for films like 'The Social Network', 'Zodiac', 'Fight Club' and others. This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle returns to Instagram after five years, switches off comments

On the first day of 2025, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, returned to Instagram after nearly five years. Her post included welcoming the New Year at the beach near their home in Montecito, California. She kept her username simple and small- @meghan. For her first post, Meghan can be seen dressed in a white dress running towards the waves on the beach. Meghan writes 2025 on the sand and looks towards the camera at the end of the video filmed by her husband Prince Harry. Markle disabled comments on the post but received “likes” from celebrity friends including Serena Williams, Chrissy Teigen, and Tan France. In August 2023, Page Six had reported that Markle had secured their handle @meghan for her returns to the social media platform. She closed all her personal social media accounts in 2018 ahead of her much-talked about royal wedding to Prince Harry.            View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (@meghan) Meghan's past journey with Instagram In April 2019, Harry and Meghan launched their joint account on Instagram where they would share important updates. Harry and Meghan used their account to announce the birth and name of their baby son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, to promote their own work and that of charities, and also release the statement after they left the royal palace in the UK which was famously called the 'Mexit'.  The account was made after they split from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Kensington Palace household, which operates on social media as Kensington Royal. Harry and Meghan stopped using their original Sussex Royal account in 2020 when they quit as senior royals.  In 20022, Meghan had teased her return to Instagram. “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back … on Instagram," she said in an interview with New York magazine's The Cut. Before launching her new personal Instagram account, Markle briefly returned to the platform in March 2024 with a page dedicated to her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard. The account featured a bio reading, “By Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex. Established 2024,” and a photo grid displaying the brand’s logo. About Harry and Meghan and their rumoured divorce Harry and Meghan now live in a luxurious $14 million mansion in Montecito, California, with their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3. The couple have increasingly been appearing at events separately, sometimes in different countries. Reportedly, this has led to speculation that they have ‘professionally separated’, due to their differing interests, as Harry focuses on charity work and Meghan on their commercial interests. However, Harry recently laughed off the rumours about his and Meghan's separation, saying it was just the latest in a long line of rumours. "Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times," he said.
