Photo exhibition features glimpses of the world captured in black-and-white

From lions and giraffes at Kenya’s Maasai Mara to silhouettes of locals in Rajasthan, check out how the world looks in black-and-white at B&W, the first solo exhibition by Mumbai-based travel and commercial photographer, Himanshuu Chandrakant Sheth, at the newly launched Nine Fish Art Gallery

What: From lions and giraffes at Kenya’s Maasai Mara to silhouettes of locals in Rajasthan, check out how the world looks in black-and-white at B&W, the first solo exhibition by Mumbai-based travel and commercial photographer, Himanshuu Chandrakant Sheth, at the newly launched Nine Fish Art Gallery. Sheth has picked 50 frames from lakhs he has in his two decade-long career, from backpacking days in the mid-90s to recent photosafaris. "For me, photography is all about contrast, and black and white photography requires balancing the grey scale. I have picked frames that will do justice in black and white," he says.

How: "I shot the images in colour and later converted them with the help of filtering softwares," shares Sheth, who’s been using Nikon cameras since his first brush with photography at age nine. Among those on display, capturing a shot of the moonrise over the flat, salt landscape in the Rann of Kutch proved to be a challenge. "I first visited the Rann in 2009 when I began conducting photosafaris. The moon rose post twilight and we managed to get good shots but I wanted to capture it at twilight. After years of studying the moon cycle, I returned to the Rann in 2014, managed the timing perfectly, and took the shot," he shares.

Where: The exhibition has been curated by Dr Anurag Kanoria of Great Eastern Homes and Bhairavi R Sanghi of Carmma Cards. Fifteen percent of the proceeds will be donated to underprivileged children battling cancer at the Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata.
