A problem with most gelato outlets in the city is the lack of innovative new flavours and the body being watery. Scoop gelateria in Bhandup crosses these hurdles, and is already pulling in a loyal crowd from the eastern suburbs

Owned by 26-year-old Gaurav Obhrai, this neatly-done outlet (with ice cream shaped door handles) offers sorbet popsicles and gelato on stick too. Our first pick was Masala Peru sorbetto (Rs 50), which made for an instant refresher with fresh pulp and a mix of masala.

Next we tried the Masala Chai Gelato (Rs 60), which will be liked by both chai drinkers and those who don’t. Continuing our experiment with India-inspired flavours, next, we picked Paan gelato (Rs 60), which was better than most of the paan ice creams we have had before. The quality of the gelato remained high through all the flavours — light yet creamy. They have weekly specials and seasonal options too, so ask your server.

A great item to try at Scoop is the special fruit flavoured waffle cone (Rs 15), which we tried with our scoop of Walnut Praline Tragedy (Rs 80). With hints of honey, ginger and a heavy dose of walnut praline, this gelato was not a tragedy at all; we loved it! After this rich gelato scoop, we picked Spiced Pineapple sorbetto, a mix of pineapple and red chillies, it was a match made in food heaven. Another fruit favourite was the Camban Gelato (Rs 60).

A mix of caramelised banana and banana chips, it pleased our sweet tooth. From the popsicles, we guarantee that you will want more of the Lemon and Mint Stick (Rs 30). The Salted Caramel Stick (Rs 30) is a great option when you are tired of age-old ice cream candies.

There was hardly anything at fault with Scoop, we are going to brave the winter chill and head here again.
