To nab a man who had been on the run for seven months allegedly in a theft case in Nalasopara area of Maharashtra, the cops posed as auto rickshaw drivers, an official said. The man had been on the run for seven months after allegedly stealing jewellery worth over Rs 25 lakh from Nalasopara was finally arrested by the police, the official said on Friday. The accused was identified as Rizwan Abdul Mannan Ansari, 30. He was working as an auto rickshaw driver in Noida to evade police action against him, the official said. The police sources stated that identifying him was challenging as he had grown a thick beard to alter his appearance. The police monitored him undercover as rickshaw drivers for several days before nabbing him, the official said. "After confirming his identity, they detained and arrested him on January 3 and brought him back to Nalasopara for further investigation," said an officer. According to the police, the burglary took place on July 8, 2024, at a house in Nalasopara West. An unknown burglar entered the house and escaped with valuables, including jewellery worth more than Rs 25 lakh. The police registered a case and began their investigation, reviewing over 80 CCTV footages. The footage revealed that the accused arrived in an auto rickshaw. The auto was traced to the Bhiwandi area the same month. The auto’s owner, identified as Yogesh Ganpat Govind (31), was detained. Govind was interrogated by a team of police officials and he allegedly confessed to the crime and revealed the names of two accomplices--Rizwan Ansari and Moazzam Shaikh (29), the police said. Shaikh was detained in his native village in Maharashtra's Chiplun. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that the stolen jewellery was with Ansari. The police raided Ansari’s house in Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, but found that he had moved to Noida. After months of searching, they learned he was driving an auto rickshaw in Noida. Despite his attempts to disguise himself with a beard, the police tracked and identified him, said the police. The police recovered valuables worth approximately Rs 12 lakh from Ansari's possession, confirmed DCP Jaywant Bajbale of the MBVV police. The investigation is ongoing, and further efforts are being made to recover the remaining stolen items, he added.

In a CCTV footage that surfaced on Thursday, the assailant, wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack, was scurrying down the stairs from the sixth floor of the building, where the actor lives, at around 2.30 am. His face was visible in the CCTV footage. The police had on Thursday registered an FIR in the matter and has formed multiple teams to investigate the case. So far no arrest has been made in the case, but the police has said that the suspect has been identified and teams are working on it to trace and nab the culprit.

Saif Ali Khan's maid is the complainant in the matter and the Bandra Police in western suburbs has registered an FIR after recording her statement after the actor was attacked inside his home, sources added. "The accused who attacked Saif Ali Khan demanded Rs 1 crore after breaking into the house, Khan’s maid has told the police in her statement," said an official. Meanwhile, hours after the attack on the actor, mid-day accessed the first image of the suspect. The suspect can be seen in a CCTV footage using staircase to reach the actor's house. The footage was recovered by the police, sources said. The 54-year-old Bollywood actor sustained multiple injuries during the alleged burglary attempt and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at around 3:30 am. The police has formed multiple teams to trace and nab the accused in Saif Ali Khan attack case, police said. Earlier, the police had said that the suspect who attacked Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence has been identified and multiple police teams are in the process to track and nab the culprit, the police said on Thursday. A case under multiple sections of the BNS has been registered at the Bandra Police Station following the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, the police said. A senior police official said, "The FIR was registered under Section 311 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), Section 312 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), and Sections 331(4)(6)(7) (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking) of the BNS." According to Mumbai Police, one accused has been identified, and 10 teams have been formed to apprehend him. The official said the Kalyan-Dombivili Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Thursday took over the Borgaonkar Wadi parking lot near Kalyan railway station and blacklisted the contractor it was leased to. The parking lot was operating on a "pay and park" basis and was leased to a contractor for three years under a work order dated November 16, 2023, as per the KDMC's release. While the contractor made an initial payment covering the first three months' rent of Rs 59.2 lakh, he failed to make subsequent payments despite repeated notices, reported PTI. An inspection last year revealed that the basement area was used for parking, with approximately 1,000 two-wheelers, and the contractor was also collecting parking fees, it said. Mumbai civic body kickstarts 'Garbage-Free Hours' campaign, to conduct 2-hour special weekly cleaning drive Under its '100 Days Action' campaign, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a 'Garbage-Free Hours' initiative across areas under its jurisdiction from Wednesday. The cleanliness drive will be held from Monday to Friday for two hours, starting 11 am. The Mumbai civic body will deploy marshals at the locations where the campaign has been launched, and penalties will be imposed on those flouting the cleanliness rules. As a part of this initiative, a cleanliness drive was conducted on Wednesday in all the administrative wards with additional human resource and the use of equipment. Locals, school and college students, and various institutions and organisations actively participated in the cleanliness drive in large numbers on Wednesday. Collective cleaning efforts were carried out in lanes, railway station premises, religious sites, marketplaces, commercial areas, tourist spots, crowded locations, and street food hubs. Speaking on the initiative, Deputy Municipal Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar said, "Under this campaign, abandoned vehicles will be dealt with, and garbage underneath parked vehicles will be removed. Discarded, broken materials will be disposed of. Roads, medians, and public walls covered in dust, stains, posters, stickers, or graffiti will be cleaned. The stone edges of footpaths and medians will be thoroughly washed. Unnecessary vegetation along roads, footpaths, and medians will be trimmed. As per ANI, The Lilavati Hospital said that the actor has been shifted to a normal ward from the ICU. The actor was attacked by an intruder in his 11th-floor Bandra flat at around 2:30 am on Thursday. The incident took place when an intruder allegedly confronted the actor's maid at his residence. As Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, it escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in the actor sustaining severe injuries. Saif was immediately rushed to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital after being stabbed by the intruder. He underwent surgery under the supervision of a team of doctors, ANI reported. As per ANI, the doctors said that the actor sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine, and surgery was performed to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife from the actor's spine and repair his 'leaking spinal fluid'. While Saif is "out of danger", doctors are continuing to monitor him. Following the surgery, he was shifted to ICU, where he is currently recovering. Mumbai police filed an FIR regarding the attack on Saif Ali Khan and recorded the statement of the complainant, who is a maid employed by the actor. In the complaint, it is claimed that the attacker demanded one crore rupees from the actor's family. According to the complainant, the intruder attacked the maid allegedly with a hexa blade, which hit both of her hands, ANI reported. "He ran towards me with something like wood in his left hand and a long thin hexa blade in his right hand, during the scuffle, he tried to attack me with the blade, when I tried to protect myself by moving my hand forward, something like a knife hit my wrist near both my hands and the middle finger of my left hand. At that time, I asked him "What do you want?" Then he said, "I need money, I asked how much." Then he said in English 'One crore'," the statement read. In the recorded statement, the house help mentioned that the incident happened at 2 AM on January 16. "When I looked again I saw a shadow at the bathroom door, and as I bent down to see who might be inside, one person came out and went towards their (Saif Ali Khan's) son," the statement added, ANI reported. She further said, "He attacked Saif with a wooden object in her hand and a hexa blade... We all ran out of the room and pulled the door and then we all ran towards him. Hearing the sound, Ramesh, Hari, Ramu and Paswan who were sleeping came out. When we took him to the room again, the door of the room was open." Mumbai Police is currently looking into the matter and have formed 20 teams to track down and nab the intruder who stabbed Saif. Dixit Gedam, DCP Zone 9 of Mumbai Police, who is part of the team investigating an attack on the bollywood actor, said that the incident was a "robbery attempt" and the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan's Bandra house, ANi cited. Gedam said, "Last night, the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan's house. It appears to be a robbery attempt. The official said the accused, Lalit Jian and his wife Chanda had some disputes with her father, who used to live with them in Mumbai before moving to his other daughter's place in Dombivali in Thane district. The couple went to the Dombivali police station on Tuesday, where Chanda's father, sister and her 16-year-old niece were also present. However, Lalit Jain and Chanda got into a fight with their relatives, stated PTI. The couples allegedly abused the cops when they tried to intervene. The couple even pulled the hair of their teenage niece, the police official said. Police later arrested Lalit and issued a warning to Chanda. The official said Lalit's arrest came after much drama. When police first issued him a notice, he ran away, prompting a pursuit by the cops. He was subsequently picked up from Dombivali railway station, he added. Thane: 20 booked for creating scene at Mumbra police station An official recently said that about 20 persons, demanding action against a man who had a tiff with a fruit vendor over language, were booked when they kicked up a ruckus at Mumbra police station in Thane, reported news agency PTI. In the Mumbra area, a man asked a vendor the price of a fruit in Marathi, but the latter reportedly said he did not understand the language and the man should speak to him in Hindi. This led to a heated exchange, drawing a crowd, reported PTI. A police team arrived at the spot and took the man to the Mumbra police station where a non-cognisable offence for breach of peace was registered against him and he was allowed to go, the official said, reported PTI. In the evening, a crowd supporting the fruit vendor went to the police station shouting slogans, demanding stringent action against the man. As per ANI reports, police teams are currently scouring the areas of Vasai, Nalasopara, and Virar in a bid to apprehend the suspect. The investigation has already uncovered significant details. Sources further said that according to initial investigations, the suspect jumped from the compound of an adjacent property which has small boundary wall into the building where Saif Ali Khan lives on the 12th floor. He then used the staircase to reach the actor's home evading the security in the building, they said, adding that it is being investigated how did the suspect who is a middle-aged man managed to get inside the actor's home and later attacked him with a sharp knife-like object, sources said. A CCTV footage has also captured the man using the fire escape staircase in the building and in one of the fottages he can be seen stairing at the CCTV camera while on the stairs. The man is seen having a back-pack on his shoulder, sources said. While he was inside the actor's residence, the actor confronted him resulting in Saif Ali Khan being severaly injured in the incident. The actor reportedly suffered six stab injuries, one of them near his spine, and has been operated upon at Lilavati Hospital. He is reportedly out of danger now, the doctors said on Thursday. "The police has formed more than 10 different teams to trace and nab the suspect," an official said. The 54-year-old actor sustained multiple injuries during the alleged burglary attempt and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital at around 3:30 am. Dr Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, confirmed that Khan underwent surgery and is now in recovery. “Saif sustained six stab injuries, two of which were deep, including one near the spine. A team of neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr Leena Jain, and anaesthesiologist Dr Nisha Gandhi performed the surgery,” Dr Uttamani said in a statement. A senior police official said, "At around 3 am, the police got information regarding an attack on Saif Ali Khan at his house in Bandra, following the information, a team of police rushed to the spot. Saif Ali Khan was later shifted to the Lilavati Hospital following the attack and he is said to be out of danger. Multiple police teams and senior officials are working on the case. An FIR has been registered in the matter and probe is underway."

The alleged obscenity came to light during a police raid at the bar located along the Kalyan-Shil road on the night of January 14, he said. Dombivali's Manpada police on Wednesday filed a case against 23 men associated with the bar, eight female servers and eight customers over objectionable conduct, the official added, PTI reported. Earlier, in another incident, Twenty-four persons, including 19 women staffers, were booked after a bar was raided in Bhiwandi in Thane district, a police official said on Thursday, reported news agency PTI. The Kongaon police station official added that the raid took place on Tuesday. "The accused were indulging in obscene acts. They have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obscenity and other offences. No one has been arrested in the case. Further probe is underway," he added. In June last year, 52 individuals were booked for obscenity, rules violation after raid at Navi Mumbai bar An official said that police filed an FIR against 52 persons, including 21 women, for alleged violation of rules and obscenity at a Navi Mumbai bar, reported news agency PTI. The police's anti-human trafficking cell (AHTC) conducted a raid on the restaurant-cum-bar located at the Vashi APMC market. They found a number of persons there indulging in obscene acts and flouting various norms at the Navi Mumbai bar, the official from APMC police station told PTI. Based on a complaint by the AHTC team member, the police registered an FIR against 52 persons, including 21 women, 11 waiters, the restaurant's manager and nine customers, under Indian Penal Code sections 294 (obscenity) and 34 (common intention) and the Maharashtra Police Act, the official said. Railway police swiftly nab mobile snatcher within hours in Thane In a swift operation, the Railway Police apprehended a mobile phone snatcher within hours of the theft in Maharashtra's Thane district, as per PTI reports. The accused, Subham Chavilal Yadav, 27, allegedly targeted a passenger on a local train at Dombivli railway station on Monday morning. The stolen device, valued at Rs 17,500, was recovered shortly after Yadav’s arrest, officials said. The incident took place at a private school located in the Ambernath area on November 28. The FIR did not mention in which class the boy was studying. The child could not read the English text properly, following which his class teacher got angry and allegedly hit him with a scale on his leg and back, causing injuries to him, an official from Ambernath West police station said, reported PTI. The boy later complained to his mother, who approached the police.
