A special team of Bihar police has left for Pune to take 65-year-old Ramjanam Devilal Singh into custody
Singh was allegedly involved in the Maoist attack in 1992, in which 35 persons belonging to upper caste Bhumihar community were killed at Baragaon in Bihar. Khadak police had detained Singh on Monday after he allegedly confessed to his role in the massacre.
Gaya district police yesterday confirmed that Singh was an absconding accused in the case, in which 9 of his accomplices have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.
Singh was apprehended by Khadak police on Monday while he was working as a security guard at a housing complex. Subsequently, Pune police questioned him about his antecedents, during which he revealed his role in the attack.
When cops here contacted Gaya police to confirm Singh’s claims, they were told that documents pertaining to that case had been destroyed in another Naxal attack on the Tekari police station in 1996.
On request of Pune police, Gaya district cops verified the name and assertions made by Singh. The documents related to the case were available in the Gaya District and Sessions Court, in which Singh is named as an accused.
When asked by media persons about progress in the investigations of the case, inspector Rajendra Kadam from Khadak police station refused to reveal any details.u00a0
