A constable with the Kurla RPF attempted suicide last afternoon by jumping in front of a train after he was called by seniors to record his statement in a case of illegal sale of scrap from the Matunga car shed. The officer, identified as Ramesh Meshram, suspended after his involvement in the case came to the fore, was posted at the car shed when the incident occurred.

The police said that on December 29 the RPF got to know that a huge amount of scrap from the car shed was transported to a different place without official permission. Three people were arrested and the truck seized. The arrested accused were Abdul Hakim alias Saddam (scrap dealer and the mastermind of the case) Musa Sheikh (truck driver) and Mansuri alias Guddu, 25 (helper).
An RPF officer said, "We came to know that RPF officers were involved. When the case was transferred to the Kurla RPF, it was revealed that constables Arjunkumar Bind and Meshram aided the accused." Sachin Bhalode, senior divisional commissioner, RPF Central Railway, said, "Meshram is undergoing treatment at Sion hospital. Once he regains consciousness, his statement will be recorded."
