A 77-year-old woman was found murdered at her home in Worli on Friday morning. The house help, hired by the family a couple of months ago, is missing.

The victim resided with her husband, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

The victim was watching TV in her room on the ground floor, while other family members had gone to sleep. She was found dead by her family around 1:30 am.

“The woman was tied with a rope and a cloth was stuffed in her mouth. The family members said that valuables and jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh is missing,” said an official from Worli police station.

The family members also informed the police that one of the four house helps is also missing after the incident.

The Worli police have filed a murder case against the house help and have launched a manhunt for him.

“As per primary investigation, the woman died due to asphyxiation. We are awaiting post-mortem report to establish exact time of death. We are also checking the CCTV footage. A case of murder has been registered and search for the accused is on,” said DCP (Zone 3), Paramjit Singh Dahiya.
