Ahmed had reportedly asked S S Deshmukh, a police inspector from Tehsil police station, Nagpur to refrain from filing a complaint against a group of men from his constituency. These men had allegedly beaten up three cops and pelted stones at a police van during an altercation with them.
Ahmed also threatened to get Deshmukh transferred if the culprits were arrested. A police officer from the Tehsil police station said, "We will send a report to the Election Commission."u00a0
Ahmed called Deshmukh, thrice and asked him not to register the case. He also threatened the police officer to refrain from lodging a complaint with the Election Commission, say theu00a0 police. The Nagpur police chief Praveen Dixit hasu00a0 informed the home ministry about the incident.
Ahmed has been booked under sections of 294 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. However, Ahmed maintained that he isu00a0 innocent. "The cops deliberately harassed the people and I intervened. I never threatened anyone," he said.
