Women artisans to serve traditional Gujarati food with a healthy twist to US secretary of state at Hansiba, a Napean Sea Road handicraft store
Artisans of Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) are understandably excited about US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to Hansiba Creations, a handicraft store, on Napean Sea Road at 11.30 am today.

This is the second time the women artisans will extend a traditional Gujarati welcome with a healthy twist to Clinton at Hansiba.
The artisans first met her in Ahmedabad in 1995 during her visit to the country as the US first lady with President Bill Clinton.
The menu
This time, the nashta menu includes dhokla, kand na samosa, a choice between tea and coffee, some dry fruits imported from Afganistan, and handmade mango ice cream.
Mona Dave, CEO, SEWA, says her team is walking the extra mile to ensure the food is healthy.
"Nothing we serve will be deep fried, including the kandna samosa, which will have very little oil. Kand, incidentally is a vegetable similar to pumpkin that is rich in nutritional value."u00a0
Dietician Dr Richa Anand of Hiranandani Hospital endorsed SEVA's kand na samosa. "While regular samosas are high in calories, cholesterol and fat, kandna samosa is high in fibre and low in fat and cholesterol.
While a regular Samosa is 300 calories, a kand na samosa is just 100 calories, and the dhokla is just 30 calories a piece," explained Anand, who added that a standard scoop of ice cream handmade or otherwise added up to 250 calories, making it the most fattening item on the menu.

SEWA members will prepare the food in the basement of the shop and taste the food before serving it to Clinton and her entourage of 35 to 40 people.
Methi Saag and Rotla in 1995
Last time Hillary Clinton visited India in 1995, she met some artisans in Ahmedabad and shared a meal with them.

"I served her some wheat rotla and methi-potato saag, which she happily ate with us. It is fresh in my mind because it was the first time I saw a gori madam.
Now, when I meet her after 14 years, I will greet her with a 'namastey Hillaryben'," said Gauri (44), who has travelled from Ahmedabad to Mumbai to meet Clinton.
