Ground staff at the domestic airport are upset and feel neglected because while Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel have been provided with facemasks, they haven't got them.
According to employees of a domestic airlines company, the ground staff comes in direct contact with passengers and so, are at a greater risk of contracting the H1N1 virus.
A disgruntled employee asked, "Why are airlines careless about our safety?" Added another employee, "At least the Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) could have provided masks to us."
A Go Air spokesperson said, "We have requested MIAL and the Airport Authority of India to ensure there are adequate safety measures for ground staff.
The employees have been briefed about the symptoms of swine flu.
But the MIAL, we understand, has provided masks only to CISF personnel." Despite repeated attempts, the MIAL spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
