The Kurla government railway police (GRP) has arrested Abdul Gafur Ayanullah Khan (36), for raping a 17 year-old girl at knife-point at Kurla railway station early on Saturday morning. Khan, a resident of Kalina, is a scrap dealer by profession and has admitted to the crime.u00a0

The incident occurred between 3.15 and 4.15 am on Saturday. According to the girl, a resident of Vidyavihar, she was on her way from Sewree. When she reached Kurla station, the last local for Vidyavihar had left, so she decided to wait near the railway protection force (RPF) station for the first local the next morning.

A man approached her, threatening her with a knife. He said, "Chup chaap mere saath chalo, nahin to yahin khallas kar dunga. Koi yahan bachane bhi nahin aayega." Fearing for her life, she followed him. He took her to a ground in Kalina on his motorcycle, raped her and escaped.

The girl managed to take an auto rickshaw home, where she related the story to her parents. On Saturday morning, she registered a complaint with the Kurla GRP. Based on the description provided by the girl and a boy who spotted Khan when the incident occurred, the police arrested him. "We have arrested him on charges of rape. Further investigations are on," said D L Gore, senior inspector, Kurla GRP.

"He is a routine visitor to brothels. On Saturday he decided to try his luck at Kurla railway station when he saw the girl alone,"said an investigating officer.
