According to the police, the victim's interest in a Dharavi SRA project may have prompted his competitors to eliminate him; he had recently funded Ganeshotsav mandals in the area

Shetty was shot at by two unidentified bikers on October 3 around 9.45 pm in Andheri. He was returning home in his car and was on the Link Road near Infiniti Mall when the assailants opened fire.
Sources in the police department said the investigating officials have secured CCTV footage from several locations, including Shetty’s office at Crystal Plaza. They said the day Shetty was attacked, he had visitors from Dharavi and their clothes were similar to the ones worn by his assailants.
A police official, requesting anonymity, said Shetty was interested in the Dharavi SRA project and had funded several mandals in the area for Ganeshotsav. The official said Shetty was also providing monetary aid to people from Dharavi who sought his help.
The official said this might not have gone down well with his competitors, who were eyeing the project. They must have assumed that it was Shetty’s tactic to help the needy in the area and win them over, so that when the time comes they would sign the NOC in his favour.
The cop said that the attack on Shetty could have been orchestrated by one of his competitors. Cops suspect that a local gangster from Dharavi might have taken the contract to kill Shetty. Another official said Shetty had recently constructed a hotel in Goa and this could have prompted his competitors to eliminate him, and they were investigating the case from this angle as well.
At present Shetty is being treated for gunshot wounds at a local hospital. Since one of the bullets was still lodged in his chest, investigating officials have decided not to question Shetty until he fully recovers.u00a0
