Three months later, experts yet to get results of psychoanalysis test
The entire Mumbai police force, of 45,000 personnel, went through a psychoanalysis test, drafted by city’s top psychiatrists in May this year. But the answer sheets are yet to reach the psychiatrists for a verdict.

The initiative, which aimed to get a peek into the mental health of the force, was launched by then Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, after the controversial shootout at Vakola Police Station. On May 3, ASI Dilip Shirke, shot Senior Police Inspector, Vilas Joshi, before killing himself with his service weapon.
Under the supervision of Dr Yusuf Matcheswala, head of psychiatry unit, JJ hospital, a team was formed to draft a questionnaire to test the mental health of each personnel. However, it’s been four-and-a-half months since the questionnaires were filled. by the police personnel.
But the psychiatrists are yet to receive the answer sheets from the Mumbai Police department. Speaking with SUNDAY mid-day, Dr Matcheswala said, “The senior Mumbai police officials had a meeting in which they came to the conclusion that putting up the test results in the public domain might not be in the best interest of the police force. The department went through the answers and said if they stumbled upon someone who they thought may need help, they’d ask him to visit us.” Another psychiatrist, Dr Sagar Mundada, who was part of the team in charge of analysing the answer sheets, said that a large number of policemen suffer from depression and alcohol addiction. He also said that analysing the answer sheets could have yielded better results.
When contacted, Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner (law and order) said, “We came across a few doctors, who for the sake of publicity, started giving interviews on their own. Hence, the data was kept confidential.”
