Former Mumbai police commissioner Subodh Kumar Jaiswal was on Tuesday appointed as the new CBI chief for two years, a government order said. A 1985-batch Indian Police Service officer of Maharashtra cadre, Jaiswal is currently the director-general of the Central Industrial Security Force.

He has also held many central posts, and has had long stints in the Intelligence Bureau and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Jaiswal, during his posting in Maharashtra as the head of State Reserve Police Force, investigated the Telgi scam before the CBI took over.

He was appointed as Maharashtra DGP in February 2019.

As a R&AW officer, Jaiswal contributed to the probe of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The senior officer also did a stint in the elite Special Protection Group from 1995 to 2001.

A PM-led 3-member selection committee had on Monday shortlisted his name for the post. The committee dropped 2 names citing they had barely six months to retire.
