Despite tremendous turnout from Bollywood celebrities and businesspeople asking residents to vote, Mumbai had a low voter turnout of 27.28 per cent as of 1:00 PM in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Voting is currently underway in six constituencies in the financial capital. 


According to the Election Commission, voter turnout in the six Mumbai constituencies was as follows at 1 pm: Mumbai North (26.78 per cent), Mumbai North Central (28.05 per cent), Mumbai North East (28.82 per cent), Mumbai North West (28.41 per cent), Mumbai South (24.46 per cent), and Mumbai South Central (27.21 per cent), reported ANI. 


According to the report, early votes included prominent personalities such as Union Minister Piyush Goyal, billionaire Anil Ambani, and actor Akshay Kumar. Celebrities from the film industry, including Paresh Rawal, Shahid Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rajkumar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, Anupam Kher, and Manoj Bajpayee, were also seen voting at polling stations in Mumbai.


Sachin Tendulkar, a cricket great, and top Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav also took part in the voting process. Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, who will be parents soon, also came out to vote, the report added. 

According to the Election Commission, the 49 parliamentary constituencies taking part in the fifth round of India General Elections 2024 had a cumulative voter turnout of 36.73 per cent as of 1 pm. Ladakh had the highest turnout (52.02 per cent), followed by West Bengal (48.41 per cent), Jharkhand (41.89 per cent), Uttar Pradesh (39.55 per cent), Odisha (35.31 per cent), Jammu and Kashmir (34.79 per cent), Bihar (34.62 per cent), and Maharashtra (27.78 per cent), the report stated. 

As per another ANI report, the voter turnout in other constituencies of Maharashtra for India General Elections 2024 stands at: Bhiwandi - 27.34 per cent, Dhule 28.73 per cent, Dindori 33.25 per cent, Kalyan 22.52 per cent, Nashik 28.51 per cent, Palghar 31.06 per cent and Thane 26.05 per cent.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), over 8.95 crore voters, including 4.69 crore males, 4.26 crore females, and 5409 third-gender electors, are expected to decide the fate of 695 candidates in this phase of voting. The fifth phase of India General Elections 2024 is witnessing key contests across various constituencies.
