Several museums in Mumbai, including the renowned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, have reported receiving threatening emails warning of potential bomb blasts, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to the report in ANI, the officials said that the threatening messages were sent to Colaba's Shivaji Maharaj Museum and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli.

The report further stated that following receipt of these emails, the police and bomb disposal unit conducted an extensive investigation at the aforementioned museums.

No evidence of explosives was located throughout the search, the officials told news agency ANI. Reportedly, an inquiry into the matter is currently underway. Additional information will be released as the probe proceeds, the officials said.

On Friday, a similar incident happened in West Bengal's Kolkata wherein an alarming email was received to the iconic Indian Museum. The email claimed that bombs had been placed within the almost 200-year-old institution, triggering a search by the Kolkata Police bomb squad, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, the bomb squad, aided by sniffer dogs and a quick response team (QRT), is performing a thorough search and sanitization of the museum grounds. As a result, public access to the museum has been temporarily restricted.

A senior police official told the news agency PTI that the threat email specifically referenced the presence of many bombs within the Indian Museum, raising fears and demanding the current extensive search.

As a precautionary measure, a substantial police presence has been deployed in and around the major Kolkata building. In addition, the police cyber division has launched an inquiry to track down the source of the threatening email, the report added.

According to its official website, the Indian Museum was founded in 1814 and is the oldest and largest multidisciplinary museum not just in the Indian subcontinent but also in the Asia-Pacific area.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a synagogue in Thane on Thursday afternoon received a bomb threat, which turned out to be a fake, the officials told media. Reportedly, they had beefed up the security following the bomb threat to 'The Gate of Heaven' synagogue near the government hospital in Thane.
