Police said occupants of the car survived unscathed as they were all buckled up; will take statement of driver after she comes out of shock

The Nhava Sheva police have registered a case of rash driving against a 32-year-old woman who met with an accident on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link on Sunday. The police are yet to take the woman’s statement. It is believed that the woman and her co-passengers, who were wearing seat belts, suffered no injuries.

The incident was reported on Sunday afternoon when Zara Sakir, a Panvel resident, was travelling from Panvel to Mumbai and met with an accident. “Upon primary investigation, it came to light that she lost control, and the car turned turtle twice, hitting the divider. A video that later went viral showed the complete accident. Despite the speed, the car turning turtle, and hitting a divider, all the passengers were safe, with no injuries. Luckily, they were wearing seat belts, which helped them,” said a police officer.

The Nhava Sheva police have registered a case under section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. “The relatives of the woman came today (Monday) to receive the vehicle. The police will take the woman’s statement tomorrow after she feels comfortable, as the survivor has been in shock. It was a lucky escape,” added the officer.
Concerning the safety of motorists on the Atal Setu Bridge, Milind Bharambe, commissioner of Navi Mumbai police, said, “All vehicles travelling on the MTHL should follow some rules and take precautions while travelling. Firstly, they should maintain the speed limit. There should be no lane cutting on the stretch or rash driving. No taking selfies or clicking pictures while driving. Every vehicle should check the tire pressure before using it. No one should stop on the bridge. Importantly, all passengers should drive wearing seat belts. All these measures are important for your life and the other motorists using it,” added Bharambe.
The Nhava Sheva and Sewree police, in the past few days after the opening of the bridge, took action against many vehicles. Firstly, it was against motorists who stopped their vehicles to take pictures and click selfies. Also, a case was registered against an auto-rickshaw driver for plying on the bridge, as two-wheelers and three-wheelers are not allowed on the bridge.
