One more leopard radio-collared at Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The leopard is about six years old

On Monday, the SGNP team successfully radio-collared a male leopard in Yeoor range of the national park. "The leopard is about six years old. The leopard was named Jeevan to honour the memory of Mr J C Daniel who studied the Mumbai leopards in the 70s and 80s and wrote a book on the Leopards of India. This research project is being conducted by Wildlife Conservation Society- India (WCSI) in collaboration with the Maharashtra Forest Department. Wildlife SOS collaborated with WCS India for this project by providing their veterinary expertise. Dr. Nikhil Bangar from Wildlife SOS assisted by Dr. Rashmi Gokhale ensured a smooth collaring procedure for the leopard." G. Mallikarjuna, CFand Director, SGNP.

The authorities are expecting interesting data on human leopard interaction through this collared animal. One more leopard will be radio-collared in the coming days. The Phase II of the project is supported by funding from Wildlife Conservation Society India, Reliance Foundation and DBS Bank.
