A junior clerk was arrested on Friday in connection with an admission racket in Somaiya Vidyavihar University, taking the total number of people held so far to four, a Mumbai Police officer said. The other three persons arrested for alleged involvement in the irregularities are also clerks at the institution, the officer added.

The Bombay High Court (HC) has imposed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on former cricket administrator Lalit Modi and dismissed his petition seeking an order to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to pay penalty of Rs 10.65 crore imposed on him by ED for violating Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). A division bench of Justices M S Sonak and Jitendra Jain, in its order of Thursday, said the petition was "frivolous and wholly misconceived" as the adjudication authority under the FEMA has imposed the penalty on Modi.

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty plunged about 1.5 per cent on Friday, taking their downtrend to the fifth straight session, due to risk aversion in the global markets after the hawkish stance of the US Federal Reserve. The 30-share BSE benchmark tumbled 1,176.46 points or 1.49 per cent to settle at 78,041.59. During the day, it slumped 1,343.46 points or 1.69 per cent to 77,874.59.
