No casualties were reported at the time of writing, though the fire caused significant damage to the godowns. The fire was confined to electrical wiring, wooden scrap, and plastic materials stored in various sections of the godowns.
Four fire engines, ten water jets, and other firefighting equipment were deployed to control the fire. An ambulance was present at the scene as a precautionary measure during the firefighting operations.
Civic ward teams assisted the fire brigade in tackling the blaze and managing the situation on the ground. To ensure a steady water supply, multiple water filling points were opened in nearby locations, including Baiganwadi Signal Deonar and Deonar Abettor.
Additional water filling points at Panjarpol in Chembur and Chedda Nagar in Ghatkopar were also activated to reduce response time. Officials highlighted that the rapid spread of the fire was caused by the large quantity of flammable materials stored in the godowns.
The scrap godown structures, made of steel and tin, posed challenges for firefighting efforts as they were load-bearing and difficult to enter. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway to determine how the blaze started.
