An exultant crowd at the youth parliament saw former IPS officer Dr Kiran Bedi encouraging students to do their bit for women empowerment. She spoke on 'State of Women Empowerment Today'.
"This is a revolution and any revolution is incomplete without women empowerment," Dr Bedi said.
She said the women in the country could be divided into three categories: Women who do not have the opportunity to study or undergo any vocational training, women who have the opportunity but do not utilise it.
Here she added that sports played an important role in empowering women. Recalling her tennis days she said it was because of her parents' encouragement towards the sport that she is a strong woman today. The third category she said has ample opportunities and excels too, but the biggest challenge is to pursue the path of honesty.
"Honesty is the best policy in the empowerment of any country." She said that it was women in the third category, who were fortunate enough to get a broad-minded environment and they should work at grassroots level to do away with corruption. She also requested the students to join local NGOs and educateu00a0 slum children during their vacations. "I believe when students meet, they will definitely create a revolution that will bring about a change our country is longing for."
Asked about her show Aap ki Kachari, which is not aired anymore, she said it would resume from March onwards. The show gave a new lease of life to many women.u00a0
