A day after the inauguration of the Season II, the Karnataka Premier League is the news for wrong reasons.
A shipping company owner from Mangalore has filed a cheating complaint against the owners of Mangalore United for duping him of Rs 1 crore, promising him a partnership.
Santosh Suvarna, proprietor, Global Associates of Mangalore, has registered a case with Cubbon Park police station against the owners Moideen Bava and BM Farook, and FIZA Infrastructures and Developers Limited the promoter company owned by them, police said.
Cricket crazy Bangaloreans were treated to a visual extravaganza at the opening ceremony of the second edition of Karnataka Premier League at the Chinnaswamy Stadium yesterday.
Santosh alleged that he had invested Rs 1.10 crore in purchasing the KPL team and the transaction was through Bava's company.
The duo convinced Santosh that they were purchasing the Mangalore Cricket Team for the KPL matches in the Season-1 in 2009 and asked him to pay Rs 1 crore in order to be a partner. The duo also offered him high returns, following which Santosh agreed and paid the amount.
Santhosh said that he was asked to come to Bangalore to the duo's office at Residency Road for negotiations. On September 4, 2009, Santosh invested the money towards partnership ofu00a0 Mangalore United team.
"I paid Rs 20 lakh directly to KPL through a demand draft through my company, and the rest of the amount were transferred to FIZA's account. But after the money was paid, they started evading me," said Santosh.
As the date of the tournament got closer, Santosh approached Bawa and Farook for the agreement formalities.

"Initially, they started giving me evasive replies, but later demanded an additional Rs five lakh for the agreement process," Santosh added.
"I later came to know that they had already entered in an agreement with Mangalore United with sole capacity," said Santosh.
Even after repeated attempts, Bawa and Farook refused to answer our calls.
