Noida police start traffic drive with own personnel; collect Rs 2,500 as fine in three hoursu00a0u00a0

The driver of the two-wheeler cut a sorry figure as he pleaded with a traffic cop to let him go. He had been caught driving the vehicle without a helmet. A similar sight but with an interesting twist: the violator was a cop himself.

On Sunday, around 18 police officers were caught violating traffic rules at five checkpoints in Noida. And for once, they were not let off by their brothers in uniforms. They were challaned.

The drive was carried out under the supervision of AK Singh, senior superintendent of police, Noida, and Ajay Sahdev, superintendent of police, Traffic, Noida.

Most of the police officers who were found flouting the traffic rules were riding motorcycles without
helmets.

The drive was carried out at four points in Noida, including Rajnigandha Chowk, Sector 14-A, DND Flyover and Sector 37.

Setting an example

"We have been receiving several complaints against police officers and to set an example, we started the drive with our department. This will spread awareness and will make others follow traffic rules too. Almost 18 police officers were caught violating the law and we have collected Rs 2,500 from them as fine," said Sahdev. Under the campaign, cops will promote awareness about traffic laws at schools and colleges as well.
