Death for three for killing jeweller

The Madikeri Session court on Tuesday gave death sentence to three people for killing a jeweller seven years ago.

One of the accused, Manoj Kumar, was a close friend of the jeweller's son Prasanth.

Manoj gave a lift to Gopinath in his car and strangulated him to death on the way, and dumped it in a deserted well with the help of his two accomplices Rafiqh and Janandhan.

Manoj even accompanied Prashanth to the police station to file a missing complaint.

He and his two accomplices also searched for Gopianth along with Prashanth.

The plot

According to the police, Manoj Kumaru00a0 came to know from Prashanth that Gopinath was carrying huge amount of gold jewels to Mysore.

Manoj then hatched a plan along with Rafiq and Janardhan. They took a car and followed the bus in which Gopinath was traveling.

When the bus stopped for a coffee break, Manoj met Gopinath and offered him a lift to Mysore saying he was going there.

He convinced him that it was not safe to travel in the bus carrying valuables.

When the car reached a few kilometers away from Mysore, Rafiqh and Janardhan strangulated Gopinath with a rope and killed him. They took the valuables and cash and brought the dead body to the Manoj's house.

While the police set a massive manhunt for Gopinath, they came to know that Manoj carried a gunny sack and dumped it in the well a few days back.

The police fished out the body from the well and took the accused into custody.
