Despite the election office going all out to register new voters during the recent voters' registration drive, the district administration have pointed out that, in comparison to last year, there is a dip of more than seven thousand voters in the district this year.
The month-long voter registration had kicked off on October 1, last year, and the district administration deleted repeat and dead voter’s names from the existing voter’s list.u00a0

As result, the total number of voters for the year 2012-13 has come to 66,81,586. Last year 66, 89, 119 new names had been registered. The final list of voters would be published on January 15, informed district collector Vikas Deshmukh yesterday while interacting with media persons.
Deshmukh also said that although the UID card is necessary for securing subsidies and benefits of various governmental schemes after the linkage of UID number and bank accounts, beneficiaries that have not received their card yet don’t have to panic, as they would be provided the benefits.
“There is a constraint of UID machines across the state and in the district. We are trying our best to appoint an agency that would provide us machines and trained operators. Therefore, the district administration is appealing to the people not to crowd at UID card centers,” Deshmukh said.
He also added that the 76,000 beneficiaries of various governmental schemes would get their UID cards on priority basis, and after that other citizens would receive their Aadhar card.
While talking about the upcoming District Planning Development Committee’s (DPDC) election, Deshmukh said that the final list of voters would be published on January 10, while the date of the election would be made known on January 18 where elected representatives of municipal corporations, councils and the members of Zilla Parishad will vote to elect this committee. u00a0
