Tonight, three young musicians from various corners of the world want to give you a taste of 21st century improvised music. Will you be there?
Sharik Hasan began learning the classical piano at five. Gael Petrina of Eucador picked up the electric bass guitar at 12. Thibault Pierrard of France has a degree in musicology. The Sharik Hasan Paris Trio, that was born in Paris last year, hasn't played together for six months.

Their compositions draw from influences that are as varied as classical, hip hop, rock and jazz. So does Sharik plan to use his sitar-knowhow to enchant Indian audiences? "I take Indian music seriously because it has lots to offer by way of rhythm, and we do play stuff that sounds like ragas.
But it's not an attempt at fusion, or to appease a particular audience. We include a sound only if it appeals to the three of us. If the audience loves it, that's great," says Sharik, who spent the better part of last year studying piano performance and composition at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
The twenty-five-year-old is game to take on any query you shoot at him, except what to expect at tonight's show. "There's a lot of improvisation that goes into our performances. So, while some parts are written out or pre-established, often, we can't predict what's going to happen either. Magical moments often take us by surprise."
