Event hosts goof up and play eerie music for a happy video featuring Transport Minister R Ashok

Transport minister R Ashok was taken aback when a video featuring him blared out eerie, disturbing sounds yesterday.

The organisers screened montages featuring the guests, most of whom were from the movies.

The crowd was treated to montages of Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu, Tamil actor Simbu, and Kannada veteran Ambarish.

Sudeep, the hero and director of the film, starred in a montage as well.

Thinking the minister would feel left out, the organisers had put together a film of R Ashok, using still photographs.

The crowd was stunned to hear the eerie background score, but when they realised what had happened, found it funny.

Many tried hard to stop themselves from laughing out loud. The less polite giggled.

Heroine Ramya was conspicuously absent. "I was invited by Sudeep and producer Shankare Gowda, but I am busy shooting a Tamil film right now," she told MiD DAY.

Industry speculation has it that she missed the event thanks to the tiff she got into with choreographer Harsha on the sets of the film.

Viveik Oberoi forgets his cellphone

Bollywood star Viveik Oberoi used a MiD DAY reporter's mobile to do a phone interview with a radio station yesterday.

In Bangalore for the audio release of Maat Maatalli (As We Talk), he said he had left his cellphone in Mumbai. "Ellarigoo namaskara," he said, greeting everyone in Kannada, at the event.

Radio One's RJ Pavithra sought a live interview with him, and he agreed to speak if he could borrow the MiD DAY reporter's phone. He spoke for six minutes, and was broadcast live. He even sang a song from Saathiya, and changed the words to serenade Pavithra. "So sweet... your voice," he said. Pavithra asked him several questions, and when she queried him about women, he said, "I love women." While he spoke to Radio One, several fans stood by his side and clicked pictures.

Maat Maatalli is directed by Kannada actor Sudeep, who has made a mark in Bollywood with his film Phoonk. He is now acting in Phoonk 2, produced by Ram Gopal Varma. Tamil star Silambarasan and Telugu star Jagapathi Raju were other out-of-town guests.
