One would think that with the arrests of bookies, cricketers and celebrities betting on the Indian Premiere League (IPL) would nosedive, but this seems to be far from reality. Bets are being accepted across Mumbai on whether BCCI President N Srinivasan will resign, and on who will win the final of IPL-6 on today.

Despite his statements to the contrary, bookies are betting big on Srinivasan’s resignation. According to a bookie who spoke to SUNDAY MiD DAY, the adds on the BCCI chief resigning are 1:5 (40 paisa for resigning and Rs 2 against his resignation).
Mumbai police crime branch and Delhi police have arrested several bookies, celebrities and cricketers for allegedly their involvements in spot-fixing in the on going IPL-6. But going by claims made by more than one bookie to this newspaper, these arrests failed to dampen the betting market.
A top Thane-based bookie told SMD that they are betting from Pydhonie (near Hamidiya Masjid), Yewoor (Thane), Badlapur, Titwala, Igatpuri, Lonavla, Goa and even Nepal. Sources said Lonavla and Goa’s bookies have taken vehicles on rent and taking bets on mobile vans.
Bets are also being placed on the highly awaited IPL grand finale slated for today evening at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Sources said the odds are in favour of a Mumbai Indians (MI) victory over the controversy-embroiled Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
According to a Mumbai-based bookie who has now moved to his hideout in Igatpuri, the going rate for Mumbai Indians is 80 paisa and Chennai Super Kings Rs 1.15. When contacted, a senior officer of Mumbai police’s crime cell said, “I have no information about betting on IPL-6 happening today. Bookies will not dare accept bets in such a situation.”u00a0
