IN two separate incidents, an army jawan and two others were held by the city police for conning job seekers to the tune of Rs 18.5 lakh.
Subhash Katkar alias Subhash alias S K, a resident of Belgaum who's posted at Kirkee-based Army's 317 field hospital as sepoy driver, duped 15 students of Rs 9 lakh by promising them jobs in the Indian Army.
He was arrested following a complaint filed by Mahesh Waghmode, one of the 15 students who were conned by him. Katkar had promised Waghmode and his friends that he would get them employed at the army's medical centre.
Also, he got their medical examinations done and produced counterfeit forms and bogus stamps with signatures of some officer in Lucknow.
But when Waghmode sensed some foul play, he lodged a complaint against Katkar. Katkar applied for anticipatory bail at the Mumbai High Court which was denied to him and hence, he was forced to be present at the Bund Garden police station on January 16 which lead to his leading to his arrest and confinement. Katkar has now been remanded to police custody till January 27.
In another incident, Vishrantwadi police arrested Sunil Bagal (33) of Yerwada and Balu Shinde (37) of Dhanori for allegedly relieving seven people of their Rs 9.5 lakh by promising themu00a0 jobs in the CRPF.
They were arrested following a complaint filed by Sanjay Dhanavade (26) of Satara who alleged that Bagal had taken Rs 1.32 lakh for securing him a job in CRPF. The duo had allegedly cheated six more people along with Dhanavade.
