The state medical council has also sent notices to 2 physicians, as all eight have been accused of defying norms of the PCPNDT Act
The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has suspended registrations of six doctors for flouting guidelines of the Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Detection Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. Two other doctors have been sent notices to for violating the Act.
Of the six doctors, three are from Mumbai, and one each from Udgir, Solapur and Kolhapur districts. The doctors who have been sent notices are from Navi Mumbai and Solapur. An official from the MMC said, “Their registration has been suspended for 5 years.”
With this development, the number of registrations that have been suspended in the past few months has reached 36 . The fate of more than 30 doctors is still hanging in balance, as the MMC is yet to decide on what action is to be taken against them. According to a MMC official, the final decision will be taken after reviewing each case individually.
