The rapid transport system introduces special tickets for the mega sporting event

If you have already bought your ticket to the any of the Commonwealth Games events, then rest assured of some special treatment while on your way to the stadium, only if you are commuting through Delhi Metro.
The visitors to the Commonwealth Games venues will not have to stand in queue and purchase separate tokens for traveling by the Metro, as the games tickets will be provided with special foils which will facilitate their travel by the Metro system.

The Commonwealth Games tickets, which will be event specific with date and venue, will have two detachable foils for up and down journey by the Metro. These foils will have the same unique serial numbers, which will be mentioned on the games ticket and will be valid for that venue and date only.

"To avoid any misuse of the ticket we have assigned the same number on the foil and the game ticket. One can use manual gates at the stations, which will be used for the entry and exit of the commuters holding these games tickets. Guards and volunteers from DMRC will verify the foils by perforating them and will collect them from the commuters at the exit station," said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Delhiites have also given thumbs up to the DMRC initiative. "Standing in queue for the token is a big problem. This initiative will save time and make commuting in Delhi easier during Commonwealth Games," said Ashish Bajaj student of Delhi University and a regular metro commuter.

Not only Metro foil but to make commuting a better experience, the DMRC will also bring out a special Commonwealth Games booklet to provide all the necessary information to the commuters during the event. The comprehensive booklet will not only carry information about the various Metro corridors and stations, but will also have details about the various tourist and shopping attractions of the city along with their Metro connectivity.

The booklet will have detailed information about the city's hotels, railway stations, other emergency numbers etc.

The Delhi Metro will provide easy connectivity to 10 out of 11 venues of the Commonwealth Games 2010, i.e., Games Village, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi University, Thyagaraj Complex, Siri Fort Sports Complex, National Stadium, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Talkotora Indoor Stadium, Yamuna Sports Complex and R K Tennis Complex.

The Delhi Metro carries about 1.1 million on the existing 125 km of network and is expected to carry 2 million commuters once the entire network of 190 Kms becomes operational by September 2010 before the mega sporting event.
