Kabeer (35) and his wife Anamika left their Noida house in sector 62 at around 9:30 in the morning to catch Air India flight to Chandigarh.

The flight was scheduled to take off from the Delhi Airport at around one in the afternoon and reach Chandigarh by two. "When we left our house we thought, we would enter the stadium maximum by 3 as we were carrying no luggage which needs to be checked in and out.

But at around two there was an announcement saying due to heavy traffic there would be a slight delay in landing. Many other cricket fans in the aircraft were getting impatient. Some even complained to the crew members but they seemed helpless," said Kabeer, a software engineer, running towards the stadium, carrying his five-years-old son on his back.

His wife who was carrying an India flag and was trying to match his pace popped up from behind and grumbled, "Why does it happen always with the common man? Whenever any VIP comes, it's we, who pay the price.

Had VVIPs not been coming we would have reached on time, missing probably a few overs. Now it's already 3:30 and we have the initial 15-20 overs of Indian batting. We have bought tickets worth Rs 5000 and on our way to the stadium we heard that Sachin has already got two lifelines and Sehwag has left after a quick-fire 38.

I need to get in as soon as possible to cheer up my country. The only benefit I could see coming late was traffic was smooth. We landed at the airport at around 2:30 and reached here in about an hour."
Kabeer and family were planning to take a taxi back to Delhi the same night.
