Civic body will identify 15 spots in the Pune where firecracker vendors will be permitted to set up shop
To ensure that lives of citizens are not put at risk, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to ban the setting up of fireworks stalls in public spaces, roads, footpaths and temporary sheds. The civic body will identify 15 spots where firecracker dealers can establish their shops.

The PMC’s land and estate department recently issued guidelines regarding the firework shops, after considering the safety of the people. The designated spots will be located on roads having a width of at least 60 feet.
“A fixed RCC structure is necessary for the shops. Interested traders cannot open shop in a temporary structure. We have given instruction to ward offices to locate 15 spots for the fireworks shops. The process is almost complete, and it will be announced through a circular,” said R T Shinde, head of the Land and Estate department.
Under the Explosive Act, 1984, any one looking to set up a fireworks shop has to obtain an NOC from the police, the fire brigade department and the PMC’s sky sign department. “Mishaps can occur when fireworks shops are set up in temporary sheds and on footpaths. Last year, there were many illegal shops on streets, which did not have the necessary permissions.
This year, the civic body is going to take strict action. It is also not permitted to establish temporary stalls in private spaces. Many amateur traders open stalls at their premises, which is also strictly prohibited,” said Prashant Ranapise, chief fire officer of the fire brigade department.u00a0
