Groove Junktion was formed four months ago and is a mix of old and new musicians. The band is the brainchild of Chris Fonceca and Leo Matthew and boasts of a sound that combines funk, R'n'B, Blues and Classic Rock.
The band members include Sheryl Varghese (vocals), Leo Matthew (Keyboards/Vocals), Denzil Fernandes ( Drums), Dallas Irani ( Bass Guitar) and Chris Fonceca (Guitars/Vocals).
"Most of the band members are experts in their field. While Chris and I play for Strange Brew and Jukebox,
Denzil Fernandes is a famous sound engineer and Sheryl and Dallas are newcomers to the world of music," states Matthew. He got the idea of starting the band since he was keen on playing funk and soul music as a change from the rock music he had been playing for a long time. Despite being a new band on the block, it has managed to thrill audiences with their performance and garner a loyal fan following across the city.
At their upcoming performance, they will perform famous covers by Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Their repertoire includes R'n'B classics from The Commitments to James Brown as well as newer hits by Joss Stone, Supergroove and Spin Doctors. They also have their own funky renditions of evergreen classic rock hits.
All the band members hold other jobs as well, though music is their passion. Chris and Leo are music teachers while Denzil is a sound engineer, Sheryl is a graphic designer and Dallas is a college student.
