An RSS supporter got a slap on the face when he tried to stop a press conference called by Agni Sridhar yesterday.
Both the conferences were to do with V-Day.
One RSS man put his arm around Sridhar and led him out. Another pushed Venkatswamy, president of the Samata Sainik Dal. "The second time an RSS man tried to push, Venkatswamy slapped him. He did it in self-defence and I think that at that point, the action was necessary," said Sridhar.
A heated exchange followed but tempers soon cooled down.
RSS zonal secretary K Narahari, who addressed RSS press conference, condemned the act. "They call themselves Progressive Organisations' Union. This act shows their level of intolerance."
At the meet, the RSS distanced itself from the Sri Rama Sene. "We have nothing to do with the Sri Ram Sene and they are not affiliated to us in any way. We do not support their actions and are not responsible for what they do," said Narahari.
But they said they did not support Valentine's Day either. "It is not our culture. Our culture teaches love, but Valentine's Day propagates lust. We oppose the celebration of the day," he said.
