Hundreds of password combinations no longer available for new users registering on micro-blogging website

Twitter, the popular mini-blogging website has blacklisted 370 passwords which are too common and can be guessed by anyone, hoping that it will make its service more compact and safe.

According to a latest study on Twitter, serious tweeters are re-tweeting (forwarding) a message for would-be users-get it together, fools, and stop making such stupid passwords.

The study, which is now being widely quoted by blogs and websites, claims that 3.5 percent of people used their first name as password, while 1.6 percent used their last name. Two percent of users chose 123456 and 0.5 percent decided for 'password' as their keyword. Twitter's list of banned passwords includes them, reports blog-site Silicon Insider.

Tinu Cherian, an avid tweeter based in Bangalore said, "It has been said that one in five people use their pets names for their passwords, while one in eight use unforgettable dates, such as birthdays, and one in 10 use their children's names.

Twitter's blacklist includes names of popular TV shows, football teams Chelsea and Arsenal, brands like Nike, cars such as Porsche and Ferrari, characters, sports, and places along with common dictionary words.

Interestingly, Twitter on its site also mentioned amanda and ashley as being a part of the banned list, saying that these passwords are extremely popular with hackers.
