After arriving here on Sunday afternoon, a police team from Bangladesh announced that they would work with the West Bengal CID to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the killing of MP Anwarul Azim Anar. The team conveyed their intention to question the detained suspects, pay a visit to Anar's residence in Baranagar, and have conversations with the MP's buddy and the landlord of the home he slept in.

An anonymous senior state CID officer told PTI that they were ready to help the Bangladeshi detectives in whatever manner they could. He promised to provide them with all of the material that the state CID had amassed for the case. Gopal Biswas, a Baranagar resident and Anar's friend reported Anar missing to the local police on May 18. Anar had been in Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment. This marked the start of the search for the missing MP.

On May 13, Anar reportedly promised to return home for dinner before leaving his Baranagar house for a doctor's visit. But on May 17, he remained inaccessible, which prompted Biswas to report him missing the next day. Kolkata Police stated that there was circumstantial evidence that the MP was first killed by strangulation and then his body was dismembered and scattered around. There are still no visible remnants of his body or any body parts.
